Just what is a hangover?

What is a hangover? And what's in a name? Does not a rose with any other name still smell as sweet? To be or not to be, that is the question? These are questions asked by William Shakespeare. However, if I know Bill, and I don't, what he really wanted to know was what is a hangover? You can't tell me that he didn't take some swigs from the bottle at one of his many wrap parties. Okay, you can tell me that, but I choose not to believe it. I think Shakespeare was well acquainted with the finer spirits and therefore, with the question of what is a hangover?

In medical terms the description of a hangover sounds very gruesome. The physical symptoms include fatigue, headache, increased sensitivity to light and sound, redness of the eyes, muscle aches, vomiting, sleep disturbance and thirst. The blood pressure can be raised and a rapid heartbeat, tremor and sweating may develop. The mental signs of a hangover include dizziness, a sense of the room spinning, and mood disturbances, especially depression, anxiety, and irritability. Other symptoms include crankiness, regret, lack of memory, and waking up to a girl who's name you can't remember. It has been said that a nasty hangover is Mother Nature's way of telling you not to drink so much. Who said it? Well, someone who liked saying things. What is a hangover?
